Keep Your Colour Vibrant!

You just left our salon with stunning, fresh colour—but now what? Washing coloured hair wrong can turn your investment into a faded, brassy mess in weeks. Don’t worry—we’ve got your back. Here’s exactly how to wash coloured hair the right way, with simple, salon-approved tips to keep your shade looking fresh.

The DO’s: How to Protect Your Colour

1. DO Use Sulfate-Free Shampoo (No Exceptions!)

Why? Sulfates (like SLS) are harsh detergents that strip colour fast. Think of them like sandpaper on your hair’s vibrancy.
Fix It: Switch to a sulfate-free shampoo made for colour-treated hair (we love Mycro Keratin Kroma Colour Intensify Shampoo]. It illuminates colour and intensifies for longer lasting results.

2. DO Wash in Cool or Lukewarm Water

Why? Hot water opens the hair cuticle, letting colour rinse right out. Cool water keeps it sealed and shiny.
Fix It: Turn the temp down—your hair will thank you.

3. DO Condition Like Your Hair Depends on It (Because It Does!)

Why? Colour processing dries out hair. Skipping conditioner = dull, frizzy, fading colour.
Fix It: Use a hydrating mask weekly (try a mask from any of our brands: Davines or Mycro Keratin ) and a leave-in conditioner daily.

4. DO Wash Less Often (Seriously, Put Down the Shampoo!)

Why? Every wash fades colour. Over-washing = quick trips back to the salon.
Fix It: Stretch washes to 2-3 times a week. Dry shampoo is your new best friend. Try Davines More Inside.  This is an invisible Dry Shampoo that refreshes the hair and scalp without residue.

5. DO Shield Hair from Chlorine & Sun

Why? Chlorine turns blonde hair green, and sun bleaches colour fast.
Fix It: Use a sun hat or scarf and give our Mycro Keratin Kroma 10 in 1 Leave in treatment a try.

The DON’Ts: Mistakes That Ruin Colour

1. DON’T Shampoo Right After Coloring

Why? Your cuticle needs 48–72 hours to seal. Washing too soon = colour down the drain.
Fix It: Wait at least 2–3 days before your first wash.

2. DON’T Scrub Like You’re Washing Dishes

Why? Rough scrubbing fades colour faster, especially at the ends.
Fix It: Massage shampoo only at the roots, letting suds clean the rest as you rinse.

3. DON’T Skip Heat Protectant (Ever!)

Why? Heat tools break down color molecules, leading to dullness.
Fix It: Spray on heat protectant every time before blow-drying or styling.

4. DON’T Slather on Heavy Oils Before Washing

Why? Oils (like coconut) can loosen colour pigments when shampooed out.
Fix It: Use oils as pre-shampoo treatments only (apply, wait, then rinse before shampooing).

5. DON’T Ignore Hard Water (Especially in KZN!)

Why? Minerals in hard water build up, making hair dull and brassy.
Fix It: Use a clarifying shampoo once a month or install a shower filter.
